THE OPPORTUNITY: Fluffy Dog Studio is looking for a highly collaborative narrative intern with initiative and versatile writing skills to assist in developing narratives for multiple projects under the Neopets brand and beyond! The ideal candidate will have effective communication and technical skills. They will also be driven and inspired to excel within a fun, collaborative, and agile creative team. This part time internship is aimed to support our current narrative team and could potentially lead to a full time position down the road.
Fluffy Dog Studio is an independent game studio based in Vancouver, Canada. We have committed to a full work from home studio structure and are open to candidates across Canada and the United States -/+3 hours within PST. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creating copy for both new (mobile, etc.) and classic (browser-based) Neopets games.
- Supporting writers in various ways such as creating items, writing quests, developing copy, and ideating new concepts.
- Incorporating feedback from leads to produce revised and polished writing.
- Communicate earnestly with team members to ensure efficient and collaborative production of narrative and creative copy.
- Utilizing admin systems to set up various creative assets such as dialogue, copy, and items onsite.
- Implementation of finalized creative assets in the Unity game engine
- Assisting with the development of other projects
- Working within Jira/Trello to ensure all tasks are properly estimated and managed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal)
- Possesses or is working towards a degree in Narrative Design, Creative Writing, Video Game Development, English, Communications, or equivalent experience.
- Online portfolio or submitted materials demonstrating writing proficiency, overarching narrative skills, and ability to produce a variety of creative work through a professional or collegiate creative project.
- Proficiency with basic writing or organization software (Google Docs, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Enthusiasm for researching and learning new lore
- Understanding of the value of empathy during creative collaboration.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and proactive about expanding knowledge while also learning new skills or systems.
- Ability to give and take constructive feedback.
BONUSES:
- 1+ years of experience working in video games or entertainment
- Professional experience in a creative writing role (ideally within video games or entertainment)
- Basic technical experience working with web-based coding
- Experience with the Unity Game engine
- Technical experience with planning through apps such as Figma
- Knowledge/experience in lore development
- Passionate enough about your craft to continue skill development on your own.
- Contribute to a positive Narrative Team culture that encourages inclusivity, open mindedness, growth, and collaboration.
- Experience working remotely in a collaborative environment
- Some familiarity with Neopets
- You have a fluffy companion.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
